Who is required to appoint a DPO
Amendment 13 to Israel's Privacy Protection Law established a mandatory DPO appointment requirement, partly mirroring the GDPR’s longstanding requirements to appoint a DPO. Among the entities obligated to appoint one: public bodies, companies holding databases of more than 10,000 individuals for commercial purposes, and organizations whose primary activity involves processing sensitive data (medical, biometric, financial, etc.) or ongoing monitoring of individuals. This requirement is in addition to the GDPR provisions applicable to many companies offering products and services into the European Union. Finally, organizations that are not legally required to make such an appointment may still benefit from one — whether in terms of customer trust, competitive advantage, or due diligence in transactions and acquisitions.
What does Pearl Cohen’s DPO service include?
The service is designed to provide organizations with a full suite coverage of all their privacy and data protection needs: building and managing a tailored privacy program, preparing policy documents and procedures, conducting impact assessments (DPIAs), mapping vendors and sub-processors, employee and departmental training, support during information security incidents, review of digital assets (websites, cookies, and more), and ongoing counsel on any matter relating to the processing of personal data.
Who leads the service?
The service is headed by Adv. Guy Bakshi, who rejoins us after six years of extensive experience as an external DPO for companies in the SaaS space, cyber, med-tech, clinical trials, and more. Guy is a licensed attorney, holds CIPP/E and CIPM certifications, and is recognized as a Fellow of Information Privacy by the IAPP.
