Distribution of IL citizens' data resulted in penalty

ILITA - The Israeli Law, Information and Technology Authority imposed a fine of 258,000 NIS (approximately US $68,000) on a company that distributed ulawful copies of the Israeli Citizens' Database.

M.N.R. Information Systems Ltd, a company that provides services to debt collection agencies, has developed a computer software that included information about numerous individuals. The unlawful copeis of the registry were incoporated in the software and distributed with it. The databse included  dates of birth, contact details and I.D. numbers of bothe Israeli citizens and their family members. M.N.R. sold its software to about 80 customers, mostly law firms.

This is the second time this year that ILITA takes such actions: six month ago, it imposed a fine of 177,000 NIS on a company that used the same databse.
